Daredevil showrunner Steven DeKnight has recently been making headlines thanks to comments about the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again Disney Plus series. As such, DeKnight had to clarify his comments on the MCU reboot, before praising Charlie Cox’s She-Hulk: Attorney At Law appearance.
Earlier this week, former Daredevil showrunner Steven DeKnight took aim at the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again reboot on Disney Plus, calling it a classic “Disney Scam” for changing the name of the series after 3 seasons instead of simply making season 4 of the original Charlie Cox series.
This is a well-known practice of Disney. Due to prior terms with the AMPTP, Disney is allowed to pay only 88% of the minimum wage to crew on shows for the first three seasons, leading to many shows like Suite Life of Zack and Cody and Hannah Montana to be renamed heading into their fourth season to maintain this lowered rate.
Despite this, many people construed Steven DeKnight’s comments as an attack against the cast and crew of Daredevil: Born Again. In a response to an article written on his comments, the showrunner reveals he has nothing but support in his heart for the upcoming MCU Disney Plus show, but simply wants the crew to be paid properly:
Daredevil: Born Again isn’t the only MCU property Steven DeKnight holds high praise for. Recently DeKnight was also asked his thoughts on Charlie Cox’s appearance in the Disney Plus show She-Hulk: Attorney At Law. According the showrunner, he loved the take, emphasizing how even in comics tones differ from writer to writer:
With many fans of the original Daredevil series wary of the MCU’s take, former showrunner Steven DeKnight’s praise should set them at ease. It seems as though even the original creatives support Charlie Cox’s Disney Plus journey with She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Daredevil: Born Again, just so long as the crew gets properly compensated for their work.
What to expect from the new Daredevil series
Little is known of Daredevil: Born Again, with plot details being kept under wraps. Jon Bernthal, Sandrine Holt, Margarita Levieva, Michael Gandolfini, Nikki M. James and Michael Gaston are set to appear in the series opposite Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio. Matt Corman and Chris Ord are writing and executive producing for Marvel.
Daredevil: Born Again is currently scheduled to premiere in Spring 2024 on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
