James Gunn is set to bring hope back to the DC Universe with Superman: Legacy. In a recent post, he revealed yet another comic book that inspired the upcoming DC Studios reboot.
Superman: Legacy seems to be drawing inspiration from all across the DC Universe, from classics like All-Star: Superman to gems of the New 52 Reboot like Action Comics‘ Brainiac Arc. James Gunn, the film’s writer and director, Gunn discussed another comic book that inspired the upcoming film: the highly-underrated Superman For All Seasons.
Superman For All Seasons is a limited-run comic book revolving around the struggle of Clark Kent defining who he is as he moves from Smallville to Metropolis. Even though James Gunn has confirmed Superman: Legacy won’t be a traditional origin story, a journey of self-discovery for the Man of Steel might just be what the DC Universe, and fans, need right now.
Superman’s DC Universe Future
Superman: Legacy is a much-anticipated project, given that Clark Kent has been an integral part of the DC Universe for over 80 years, with various iterations and adaptations across different media. The movie promises to explore the character’s origins and his struggles to balance his dual identities as Clark Kent and Superman while fighting off villains and saving the world.
James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
