Spider-Man: No Way Home saw Tom Holland’s Peter Parker don a brand new suit as he embraced his new life. Marvel Studios’ Head of Visual Development Ryan Meinerding talks about the meaning of the new suit and the future of the character.
A concept art book for Spider-Man: No Way Home gave fans their best look yet at cut or changed aspects of the film, as well as insights from members of the cast and crew. Ryan Meinerding, who serves as Head of Visual Development at Marvel Studios, recently broke down the inspirations of Tom Holland’s new suit, as well as teased the future of the character:
“It’s a classic red-and-blue suit with a spider that feels more grown-up – a little bit influenced by the spiders that he saw on Tobey and Andrew’s suits,” Meinerding explains. “The journey that he’s been on, the pain that he’s been through losing both Tony and May and then losing his friends at the end has allowed him to get to a place where he is not just the friendly neighborhood kid Spider-Man.”
“Now he’s more of a grown-up Spider-Man. He is owning that identity in a strong way. It’s such a big movie, and ending on something like that feels right, it feels like it’s earned. Now we have a fully-fledged Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe who is classic.”
Many people’s main complaint about Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is that he didn’t truly feel independent in the MCU, relying on other characters like Tony Stark in pivotal moments. However, it seems as though the character will be reinvented following Spider-Man: No Way Home with a brand new suit in tow. With this in mind, it seems as though Spider-Man 4 has a brighter future than ever.
What’s next for Spider-Man?
What does the future hold for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker? The success of Spider-Man: No Way Home has opened up a world of possibilities for the fan-favorite Marvel character. The movie ends with Peter erasing himself from the memories of his loved ones in order to protect them from his enemies. This sets up an interesting dynamic for future Spider-Man movies, as Peter will have to navigate a world in which he is not known as Spider-Man.
Rumor has it that Tom Holland has signed on for multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe appearances after Spider-Man: No Way Home. The future of the Spider-Man series is currently unclear, but it is likely that Marvel will continue to explore the multiverse concept that was introduced in No Way Home.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is now available to own on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Spider-Man’s Marvel Cinematic Universe future and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
